Almost a year and I'm still in love

I got this netbook April 2009. It's one of the best decisions I've made. it's so light and portable. taking a laptop with me when i go out was a decision...not anymore. so far i haven't faced a problem with it.
I have a regular sized Toshiba that i don't use anymore ( it seems gigantic compared to the NC 10)
my only complain would be that it doesn't have a DVD drive, but i bought a portable one (to watch my netflix movies.

Regretted this purchase since the beginning... :/

This computer is okay, but I would never buy it again. I have only had it since August of 2009 (only 6-7 months). Here are my problems with it:

1. [Since I first got it] Anytime I shut it down or restart it, I may have to log in 20 times before it'll work. The login screen comes up, I type in my password, and then it shows my desktop background. That is it. I cannot do ANYTHING except CTRL+ALT+Delete to log off and then try it again. Sometimes it will work the first time, but sometimes I literally try 20 times before I finally get my computer loaded up. THUS I keep it on STANDBY almost all the time because I don't have time for it to be so unpredictable on startup.

2. [New problem, within last several days] I have been having this problem with my screen turning completely white whenever my computer is plugged in. Sometimes changing the angle of the screen will help, but mostly it is just a pain. Apparently this is a common problem. Here is one site you can look at: [...] . I guess it is a problem with some cable/harness connected to the screen. I did try reinstalling the OS last night, but I am still having the problem with the screen. In fact, a few minutes ago my screen turned black, and I had to put it on standby and start it back up again because nothing else would get it back to normal.

Ever since I reinstalled the OS, however, the function keys (mentioned below as the only thing I like about this computer vs. the other netbook I had) are non-functional. They don't do anything. This is extremely frustrating, as I cannot change the screen brightness or the volume, or check my battery power like normal. In addition, the computer does not recognize when my headphones are plugged into the jack, so I cannot watch the video clip I wanted to (the sound won't

3. Bluetooth and the Synaptics touchpad are constantly crashing, and the only way to get them back up and running is to restart the computer.

4. The whole computer seems overall cheap... cheap plastic shell that is cracked, the battery does not last as long as it is supposed to, etc.

5. Speakers are very quiet. I can hardly hear anything out of them when they are turned all the way up. I almost always have to resort to headphones, which makes me wonder what the point of the speakers is.

Things I like:

1. I like all the keyboard shortcuts (Fn+Esc=Standby, Fn+F2=Battery juice left, Fn+F5=Backlight off, Fn+F6=Sound off, and of course the volume and brightness keys, etc.).

I'm getting an Acer when this one finally bites the dust, which I expect won't be very long... (I wrote this review yesterday, and have edited it a couple times since. Upon finishing this review, I will be ordering an Acer - tried and true.)

A little workhorse

After much research and comparison, I finally settled on the Samsung NC10 netbook. I've had it for several months and I don't regret my purchase at all. Here are the reasons I chose this model.
The Pros:
1: It has a matte screen. I don't know about you but I like to be able to read the screen everywhere I might happen to be using the netbook. I often need it in offices, which means lots of lights to create glare. This is an ultraportable. Glossy screens don't work well where there is a lot of light, especially outdoors.

2: The keyboard size and layout: OK, I admit it. I am a keyboard snob. My home desktop has none other than an original IBM model-M "clicky" keyboard. The spacing and layout are the benchmark for which all other keyboards were created and are judged. I know I'm not going to find the same feel and size in a portable, but the NC10 does have a very nice keyboard for a netbook. I especially like how the arrow keys are "kicked down" so you get a full right Shift key.

3: Color and appearance: I like the blue color and I also like the fact that the keyboard bezel is not glossy plastic. Ever seen a computer with a glossy bezel after five minutes of use? Every smudge and fingerprint are clearly visible. I can live with the glossy cover, it's pretty sharp looking but it does require frequent cleaning to keep the fingerprints away.

4: Port placement and features: Everything is easy to get to and you get three USB ports, Bluetooth and an SD card reader. Very handy as just about all cameras now use SD cards. This makes it a great little machine to take along on digital photo runs. 2.5 pounds travels nicely and the hard drive is big enough to store a lot of photos, even at high resolution and file size.

I've also discovered that this netbook has very good quality audio available at the headphone jack which make it very nice for listening to MP3 music on the go. The screen quality is sharp and bright with good color definition. Resolution is 1024x600. Small, but at least it isn't 1024x576. With a screen this size, the little bit of extra desktop space helps. Battery life has been coming in at around 6 hours in regular use. I am currently running Windows XP, I did test Windows 7 RC1 and it ran very well. You do have to download drivers for Windows 7. I created an image of the original XP install so I could go back if so needed.

Now, the only one con:
The touchpad. It's rather cramped and it's flush with the bezel, which means you can't really feel when your finger has left the touchpad surface. Takes a little getting used to. I can work with it, but a larger touchpad would have been nice. The button bar is also recessed back from the front edge of the netbook, so this also takes some getting used to. The workaround? For extended use, I have a bluetooth mouse.

All in all though, I have to say I am very happy with my Samsung NC10. It performs well and does exactly what I bought it for; a light, easily portable secondary machine that works everywhere. My regular laptop runs Windows 7, so it's nice having an XP machine around for when it's needed. I have even performed data recovery on a couple of occasions using a USB to SATA adapter and the NC10 performed brilliantly. It's proven to be quite versatile and a workhorse at that.

14 months of heavy use...

I purchased the NC10-14GBK in January 2009, and this little Sammy is one of the best tech purchases I have ever made. During that period, I brought this netbook along with me about everywhere (as it fits in a small bag) and used it very heavily. The battery life is excellent and it is overall a very capable machine that is still running strong.

Wireless connection is ridiculous

I hate giving this computer such a poor review. It's cute. It's cheap. The keyboard is even pretty comfortable. However, considering that it is a netbook and the wireless does NOT work... it's pointless.

I've installed every new release of the atheros driver from Samsung and the problem will not go away. I can't be online for more than a few minutes (most of the time less than that!) without it dropping the wireless connection. It's incredibly frustrating and takes any enjoyment out of having a netbook. The worst part is that's it's a pain in the butt to reconnect and the connection periods tend to get shorter and shorter. I'm actually surprised about all the positive reviews on here since a quick search on the internet reveals this as a very common issue.

I wish I would have spent a little more and gotten a better one. I highly recommend looking somewhere else.
