The Mac Mini features the powerful 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. It has two cores, so it's like having two 2.0GHz processors in one! Another great feature is the suite of applications in iLife '09. Full-featured collections of programs that are designed to let you easily take control of your creative projects. iPhoto organizes your Digital pics, and has a cool feature that groups them by event. iWeb makes it easy to create your own website. iMovie & iDVD lets you Edit your videos and make your own DVD movies. All of this and more are made from sleek, anodized aluminum with refined, rounded corners and a pearly white cover that can fit anywhere! I have had this computer since the release date about 18 months ago. This computer has run flawlessly. No issues to report at all. It gets daily use and never gets turned off. We have it attached to a Dell 24" wide screen LCD. Movies on it look fantastic and the sound quality is very good through the external 3.1 speakers. I did upgrade the memory to 4 GB and the Hard Drive to a 320 GB 7200 RPM unit.

It mainly gets used for photography, internet, mail, movies, iWork or Office docs and light gaming. Even though it was purchased for me to use, my children have kind of taken it over and use it more than me now. My peripherals work better on this than any of our Windows PC (all using Windows 7).

If your are searching for a used computer to save a buck or two, then this one will surely please. It works very well with the Keyboard, Mouse and monitor you already have.

Good computer for a basic user, but has an issue

After all the hype from my brother who works in digital design my wife and I bought a mac mini. All we do is music, photos, type a document up, and surf the net. I bought an external hard drive since memory is pricey on macs. I enjoy this machine much more than my former uses on a windows OS or on Ubuntu from my Linux machine, everything is streamlined and very easy.

However, the biggest issue is the cd drive doesn't always read the cd, or can't eject the disk. Reboot the sucker, play around with this or that, read an online forum to fix it this way or that way. But the bottom line is cds get stuck for me a bit too regularly. It like owning a fancy sports car and the door won't open or shut, and you sit there opening your doors with a coat hanger.

Great Mac but PC sloppiness

Part of why people buy Mac computers (other than the fact that they work, continue to work, and then work some more) is the clean design. With the Mac Mini, you get a super duper Mac computer with all the reliability and great apps, all in a well designed little computer.

But then you have to connect all your cr... stuff. If you are moving your PC (and peripherals) to the Mac Mini, all those ugly cords are still making a mess behind that pretty (yet running) machine. As I was connecting everything, I was thinking, "just another reason I hate PC's" (other than the fact that they stop working).

Great bang for your buck though. And since I couldn't go out and buy all new Mac peripherals, this is still worth it.

Just bought two

I purchased two of these to use for video playback in a theatre application. I upgraded the RAM in them to maximum and they ran flawlessly. I'm very happy with the addition of these machines to my supply now that Apple has added dual video outputs.

Folders

A problem with the 1gb Imac and the Mac Mini (but not the Macbook, I am told) is folders.

You set your folder with small icons, hiding the toolbar. You come back later, the toolbar is back, the icons are now large, falling all over each other like poker chips -- or, your icons have turned into a list.

You patiently put it back the way you had it, and you click the button that says "Always open in icon view."

You come back later -- the folder has gone crazy again. The toolbar is back, the icons have become a list, the icons are too big -- something.

You end up sighing ten times a day as you use the computer.

Very annoying.
